Students > School Council

The School Council was established at The Heathcote School in 1969 and has been active ever since. Two representatives from each tutor group are elected to represent the views of the tutor group in the council meetings. Year Council meetings are held in the week before the School Council meetings.

The School Council provides a platform for students to bring up and discuss issues affecting aspects of their school life. Meetings are held every half term and are attended by the Head Boy/Head Girl.

Recent business has included such matters as litter, planners, house names and deciding which charities to support. School Council members are also asked to interview candidates for senior teaching posts.

Each year some council members represent the school at the Stevenage Youth Council and this year the Youth Council was chaired by a student of The Heathcote School.

Students are encouraged to get involved in various projects via the School Council such as Recycling, Healthy Schools, improving the environment and working parties – Anti-Bullying, Anti-Racism.
