Method of Assessment

At both AS and A2 there are two examinations, one in January and one in June.  The written exams have a common format consisting of structured short answer questions and extended questions that require longer, more detailed essay-type answers.  There is a common focus of application of knowledge in both papers.  We recommend as a requirement for this course, students obtain a B grade at GCSE Science, Additional Science and a C grade in English and Maths.

Progression

Biology is useful in a wide range of careers including medical and laboratory work.  Technical jobs in the textiles, cosmetic and chemical industries can also require a sound knowledge of biological concepts.  Many areas of higher education involve Biology including Geology, Meteorology, Pharmacy, Medicine, Nursing and Environmental Science.
